WHY PINEL ISLAND

What Makes It Worth the Trip

Sea turtles

One of the most reliable sea turtle spots in Sint Maarten. The shallow lagoon around Pinel Island is a feeding ground — sightings in the morning are very common.

Clear lagoon water

The lagoon on the west side of the island has some of the clearest, calmest water in Sint Maarten. Visibility of 10–15 metres is typical, ideal for snorkeling without experience.

Snorkeling reef

The reef runs along the southern and eastern edges of the island. Tropical fish, coral, and sea turtles are all common. Gear is included in the charter.

Beach bars

Karibuni and Coco Beach serve fresh seafood, cocktails, and light meals during the day. Lunch on the beach is a natural part of a Pinel Island day.

Pinel Island Questions

How do you get to Pinel Island from Sint Maarten?

Only by boat. A private charter from Simpson Bay Marina takes approximately 30 minutes. A public ferry runs from Cul de Sac on the French side, but a private charter gives you full flexibility on timing.

Are there sea turtles at Pinel Island?

Yes — very commonly. They graze on sea grass in the shallow lagoon, especially in the morning. Cannot be guaranteed, but sightings are frequent.

What is there to do on the island?

Snorkeling, swimming, and two beach bars (Karibuni and Coco Beach) serving food and drinks. The island is a nature reserve with no other permanent structures. You can also walk the full perimeter in about 20 minutes.

How long should I spend there?

A half-day charter gives 3–4 hours on the island — enough for snorkeling and lunch. A full-day trip allows a second stop, usually Creole Rock for more reef snorkeling.

Is Pinel Island good for children?

Yes. The lagoon is calm, shallow, and clear — ideal for children. The sea turtles are a highlight for kids. We provide flotation vests for younger children or non-swimmers.
